Regional Fishing Reports

A new edition for each region every month. Every season date and bag limit in these reports was read from the state agency's own page or lawbook, not from a summary of it, and each state section says where. Alongside that sits what local shops and captains published, with their names and dates on it, and our own engine outlook for the waters people search for most.

Each region has a current report and a dated archive, because reports age in a specific way: a season that opens on the 15th is news before the 15th and history afterwards. The archive keeps what a given month actually said.

How these reports are put together

Each regulation claim is read from the agency that issues it. That sounds like a small distinction and it is not: a season date taken from a well-written secondary source can be wrong by days, or attributed to the wrong half of a state, and it reads perfectly either way. So each state section names the page or lawbook it came from.

The live reports come from people who put their name on them. Where a water has no independent reporter, the report says so rather than filling the gap with something vague. Those gaps are real and they are listed.

The engine outlook is a forecast from the same scoring engine behind the rest of this site. It carries two numbers rather than one: a grade for how good a day looks, and a count of how many hours of that day hold up, which is a different question. Where no gauge measures a water's temperature, the figure is labelled modelled, and where the nearest station sits on a different water we leave that water out.
