Nevada Trout Stocking Report 2026
Every sentence here comes from the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW), and each section names its sources. Updated .
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) raises rainbow, brown and cutthroat trout at three hatcheries and a rearing station: Mason Valley near Yerington, Gallagher in Ruby Valley, Lake Mead near Las Vegas and Spring Creek near Baker. It stocks reservoirs and streams that cannot hold enough fish on their own, and community ponds in Reno, Carson City, Las Vegas and other towns. Stocking follows the water temperature, because many waters get too warm for trout in late spring and summer. In western Nevada ponds such as Baily Fishing Pond in Carson City, trout go in from March through June and again in the fall; in southern Nevada the ponds get trout in the cool months and catfish in the warm ones.

When Nevada stocks trout
Spring and fall in western Nevada ponds
Community ponds in western Nevada, such as Baily Fishing Pond in Carson City and Mitch Park Pond in Gardnerville, are stocked with rainbow trout regularly from March through June and again in the fall, when the water cools.
Winter trout in southern Nevada ponds
In southern Nevada the ponds get trout in winter and catfish in the warm months. At Mesquite Pond trout go in once a month from November through March, and catfish in April, June, September and October. In Las Vegas, NDOW's guides to the Lorenzi Park and Sunset Park ponds say nothing is stocked in July because of the heat, and that fishing slows in April and October, at the changeover between trout and catfish.

Which day to fish it
The schedule says where the fish went in. Which day to go is a different question: the forecast scores each day of the week for trout at the water you pick, from its water temperature, the wind and the weather.
