The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) stocks fish across the state, most of them from its own hatcheries, and rainbow trout are still a large share. In 2025 it stocked 11,660,600 fish in 655 waters, 10.6 million of them from DWR's 13 facilities. DWR's stocking report lists every stocking it has made this year, water by water, with the number and size of the fish and the date. At community ponds trout go in during the cooler months and catfish in summer, once most ponds are too warm for trout.

When Utah stocks trout

Community ponds: trout in spring and fall

At Bountiful Pond in Davis County, the 2025 report shows catchable rainbow trout from February 15 into May, channel catfish in June, and rainbows again from September 15 through October 22. At Fairmont Park in Salt Lake City it ran the same way in 2025: rainbows from March 13 to June 4, catfish on June 5, rainbows again in September and October. DWR's reason, from 2019: by June most community ponds are too warm for trout, so it switches to catfish for the summer.
