What the Fish Are Doing in July
Pre-spawn (1 species)
Snook feed hard before spawning in July, and our scoring raises their activity by up to 1.20x. Look for snook on beach surf and inlets 2-6 ft.
Spawning (6 species)
Black Sea Bass, Bluegill, Channel Catfish, Musky, Snook, Tarpon spawn during July. Fish on beds are harder to tempt, so our grades apply a spawn-lockout penalty. Target pre-spawn and post-spawn species instead, or fish deeper staging areas nearby. Some species appear in both lists because spawning runs across the month, with northern waters lagging southern ones by several weeks.
Post-spawn recovery (7 species)
Black Sea Bass, Bluegill, Channel Catfish, Musky, Smallmouth Bass, Striped Bass, Tarpon are recovering from the spawn in July. Expect a short lull before they return to normal feeding, and favour slower presentations near spawning flats.
