What the Fish Are Doing in August
Spawning (1 species)
Snook spawn during August. Fish on beds are harder to tempt, so our grades apply a spawn-lockout penalty. Target pre-spawn and post-spawn species instead, or fish deeper staging areas nearby.
Fall feeding (3 species)
Flounder, Brown Trout, Redfish (Red Drum) feed aggressively through August ahead of winter, with activity lifted by up to 1.30x. Cooling water and baitfish movement make this some of the year's best fishing.
Post-spawn recovery (5 species)
Black Sea Bass, Bluegill, Channel Catfish, Musky, Tarpon are recovering from the spawn in August. Expect a short lull before they return to normal feeding, and favour slower presentations near spawning flats.
